We are proud to celebrate our founder and Chief Executive, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, who has become the first African to receive the Founders Award of the International Association for Adolescent Health (IAAH).
The award recognises individuals who have made outstanding and lasting contributions to adolescent health. It was announced at the 13th World Congress on Adolescent Health, which is held every four years. Four recipients from around the world were honoured this year.
The ceremony was originally planned for Montego Bay, Jamaica, but was held virtually after Hurricane Melissa disrupted travel and local events.
Decades of work for young people
Prof. Fatusi is a professor of community medicine and public health and a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo. His work for young people includes:
- Leading the development of Nigeria's first National Training Manual on Adolescent Health in 1999
- Founding the Society for Adolescent and Young People's Health in Nigeria (SAYPHIN)
- Chairing the National Technical Working Group on Adolescent Health and Development for over a decade
- Serving on the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing
"Prof. Fatusi is an embodiment of excellence, and this recognition is a reward for years of consistent impact."
Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, Vice-Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, quoted in ThisDay
What it means for Paaneah
Prof. Fatusi founded Paaneah Foundation in December 2016 to give back to society. The same commitment the award recognises shapes everything we do in Ota, from free skills training and JAMB preparation to character development.
